English for Architecture Students

Class Description

The purpose of this class is to learn basic English and its uses in architectural studies. This class specifically introduces student to English materials through speaking, reading, listening, and writing. We will succintly study sentence formation and then read and listen to architectural passages, discuss them, and write their summary. We will also learn how to prepare graduate school and fellowship applications.

Regulations

Attendance

  • We will begin class at 7.15 am. Please come to the class no later than 7.25 am. Attendance after 7.25 is not allowed and will be counted as absence without notice.
  • You are required to attend no less than 80% of the class sessions
  • Absence with notice (max. 2x), should be accompanied with a medical or guardian’s or parent’s note.
  • Please turn off your cellphone while you are in the class.

Communication

  • You are welcomed to see me during office hour (Tuesday and Thursday 12.30-14.30) in my office to discuss anything that are related to this class or prospective study plan. Please make an appointment in advance via e-mail (tutin@upi.edu) or whatsapp.
  • Please use standard language in SMS or email and be on time.

Assignments

  • This class will be developed and supported by SPOT (Sistem Perkuliahan Online Terpadu), beginning next week. You can log in using your UPI account.
  • In addition to announcing in the class, I will also post all assignments on SPOT. Please familiarize yourself with the system.
  • All assignments have to be submitted through SPOT.
  • No late submission is allowed.
